NFCV is expanding efforts to serve students by launching NebraskaSEE, the Nebraska Student Eye Exams program.
NebraskaSEE leaders are developing a framework that will provide more comprehensive eye exams for students who have no insurance coverage or are underinsured.
Building on NFCV’s current school clinic pilot program, this new framework directly connects participating schools and local optometrists. School personnel will identify qualified students and arrange transportation for them to receive an exam at the OD’s practice. The program hopes to provide two pairs of eyeglasses for each student who needs them.
“We’re in the process of coordinating details between schools and participating doctors in six to eight communities across the state where we hope to conduct these clinics during the 2026-27 school year,” said Dave McBride, NFCV Program Director.
In addition to growing the current school clinic pilot program, NFCV and NebraskaSEE are working to consistently collect data that will:
- Assess the extent to which current state requirements for kindergarten vision evaluations and for school screenings are adequate to meet vision needs of Nebraska’s children; and
- Identify needs and opportunities for additional resources that would address those needs. Participating doctors and schools will be asked to report standardized data to NFCV related to this program.
